Our History

IMG 3847In December 8, 2000, the Corazon Centre was established as a ministry of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Our name, Corazon, is a Spanish word meaning “Heart”, which reflects our core values of kindness and compassion. Initially, the Centre was established to provide short-term respite services to women and their dependent children who were in need. Home ‘detox’ services were also provided to women who were unable to undergo formal detox programs because of their caregiving responsibilities.

In 2006, the service was expanded to include the provision of psychology and counselling services. This was in response to the lack of affordable mental health services for people living in the City of Wyndham and Hobsons Bay. As demand for this service grew the respite component declined. Today, the psychology and counselling service remains the focus of the organisation.
